The most subtle modal dialog ever

Like many websites for international corporations, TomTom wants me to choose my country before continuing on to the appropriate localized site. Rather than send me to a landing page they use a modal dialog which is unfortunately the exact same size as the "featured content" that it overlays, and they white out the rest of the (disabled) content only by about 10%, which is not nearly enough.

Discussion

I was really baffled by your screen shot until I read the text. The disabling is really really not strong enough!

It is also bad that the background image (http://www.tomtom.com/lib/img/headers/international.jpg) for the modal is the last thing to load on that page, so you get very confused until that loads, because there is not explanation until that is done.

This is the only active thing on the page.
