I've been thinking about how they could make this better, because it is really pretty powerful underneath the PHP date syntax. What if they just had you enter today's date the way you want all dates to appear, and then parsed that to create the formating?
Luckily they have a pretty clear link to the documentation to help ease the pain (a little bit).
