Amazon Home Page

I know Amazon does a lot of testing, but it is beyond me how their current home page apparently performs best for them. I hate the design, don't enjoy scrolling five times to get to the bottom and don't like most of the products they highlight. (just a test post to see if I'm able to post problem free from IE).

The "add a note" functionality is a little confusing. After hovering over the image, I noticed the yellow box and was wondering why my note didn't show up. I then stumbled on how it works by also hovering over the yellow box and my note showed up. I think it needs to be more clear on how to display notes (or perhaps just have the text show up immediately, since that's what I expected after hovering on the image).
